Sunly’s Wind Turbine Project in Latvia Secures Priority Status from LIAA

The Investment and Development Agency of Latvia (LIAA) has granted priority investment project status to Sunly’s project to build four wind turbines with a capacity of up to 28 MW in Matīši Parish. This means that the project, on a national scale, can benefit from the so-called “green corridor,” with the expectation that procedural activities by state and municipal institutions will proceed more efficiently, reflecting the project’s newly acquired status.

As explained by the Investment and Development Agency of Latvia, the initiative’s goal is to reduce the administrative burden on businesses and accelerate administrative approval processes, while also enhancing Latvia’s competitiveness in attracting investments.

Liene Goba, Sunly’s Wind Project Manager in Latvia, emphasized: “This is the first Sunly project to be granted priority investment project status in Latvia, so time will tell what this means in practice. We view it positively, as we have already established successful cooperation with both the Valmiera municipality and the local community. The initiation and implementation of any wind park project takes time, and in the case of Matīši, even though only four wind turbines are planned, an active phase is ahead, involving work with various industry experts, the municipality, and other stakeholders. In any case, from our side, we also view obtaining this status as a strong commitment to prioritizing nature, ensuring that the project aligns with sustainable development goals and will positively contribute to the preservation of natural resources for future generations.”

A recent example of collaboration with the local Matīši community is the legendary 41st Matīši Football Tournament, which took place during the first weekend of August as part of the parish celebrations. Sunly provided financial support to cover organizational costs for the event. Currently, efforts are underway to find a family from this parish who needs help purchasing school supplies, so if there is any information on who might need assistance, we encourage you to get in touch.

More about LIAA’s initiative:

As part of the “green corridor” initiative, businesses registered in Latvia that plan to implement investment projects in priority sectors can receive state administrative services related to construction, spatial planning, and migration on a priority (accelerated) basis by applying for and obtaining priority investment project status, which is granted by LIAA in the case of Latvia.
